The Stevensville Hotel, located in the former Thornton Hospital, built in
1910, and on the National and Montana Historic Registers, is under new ownership since 2004. Now after nearly 4 years of renovations, we are happy to say the hotel and surrounding gardens are complete. Come experience the finest historic accommodations in the Bitterroot Valley!
The rooms are graced with authentic period furnishings, Supreme Rest queen-sized mattresses, luxurious 100% cotton linens and handmade quilts. Antique & local contemporary art
adorn the walls. Continental Breakfast is served in the morning featuring locally roasted organic coffee. Seasonal fresh flowers from the garden adorn the halls and lobby, and the hotel has wireless high-speed internet available. Sit out on our lovely porch and watch the sun set over the Bitterroot Mountains!
Just one block from Main Street, you can visit art galleries, antique shops, gift shops, and restaurants. Take a stroll and visit the neighborhood's historic buildings, including the beautiful Bass Mansion and St. Mary's Mission, founded in 1841. Within two miles are the Lee Metcalf National Wildlife Refuge, the Whitetail Golf Course, the Bitterroot River, and many mountain trails awaiting exploration.
The Summer of 2008 proved to be the most delightful summer yet as we
hosted guests arriving by bicycle*, motorcycle & auto from many corners of
the world. We had guests from Alaska to Florida, New York to Southern
California, from Australia to Europe to India. The country winning for the
most-unrelated-to-each-other-number of visitors was the United Kingdom. It
started with Andy on his bicycle in May and culminated with the 5 couples
riding their motorcycles on a great northwest tour in August, and thanks
to all the others in between for the lovely accents and stories. The
weather was not too hot and the gardens loved the long days and plentiful
moisture. The sunflower I planted by the front entry grew close to 14
feet, and was covered in over 50 blooms by late August, and became a topic
of conversation over the breakfast table.
We hosted the Stevensville Main Street Association's Brew Fest Fundraiser
on the west lawn again this year during the Western Heritage Days. The
place was mobbed because the special musical guest playing with Joan Zen
was Huey Lewis. Thousands came from all over Western Montana to hear the
free show. Alison spotted Huey arriving on the side street from the second
floor balcony. She ran down and got an autograph, then returned for the
eagle eye's view of the concert.
Bicycler's Special: We have had such a great time hosting cross country
touring bike riders over the past few years that we want to extend this
special to all of you hard working tourists. $15 Off room rate and we'll
do your laundry for free!
"You both made us feel very welcome and at home. After a day of bicycling
your place was a breath of fresh air. Taking our dirty laundry (bike
clothes that even our mothers would have rejected) went way above any
level of hospitality! And then driving us through the road construction to
the start of the bike path...Many thanks, this stay will be a wonderful
memory for us." B & M - Healdsburg, CA
